The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS), through its Central Region Sports Development Office, has launched a week-long Basic Athletics Coaching Course at the Dowa District Council.
The program, running from January 13 to January 17, 2025, has brought together 30 participants from diverse backgrounds. These include police officers, primary and secondary school teachers, individuals from Dzaleka Refugee Camp, community athletics club coaches, and para-athletics coaches.
The course is designed to provide foundational skills in athletics, covering areas such as running, throwing, and jumping, as well as techniques for track events. By enhancing coaching expertise at the grassroots level, the initiative aims to bolster the development of athletics in Dowa and beyond.
Participants who complete the program will be awarded certificates, acknowledging their competence and dedication to advancing athletics coaching.
Facilitation is being led by certified experts, Mr. John Mwathiwa and Mr. Golden Gunde, both holders of Level 1 Coaching Certificates from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Their guidance ensures that participants receive professional and practical training throughout the course.
This initiative underscores MNCS’s commitment to fostering sports development across Malawi. By equipping local coaches with essential skills, MNCS is laying the groundwork for nurturing athletic talent and promoting sports excellence at the community level.
