The Malawi Men’s Cricket National Team has secured their place in the next stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sub-regional qualifiers after a dominant 9-wicket victory over Cameroon at UDSM Ground in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, this afternoon.
Malawi, needing a win to ensure a top-two finish in the tournament, delivered an emphatic performance. They comfortably chased down Cameroon’s modest target of 30, finishing at 31/1 in just 2.5 overs. The standout of the match was Malawi’s Moazzam Baig, who was named Player of the Match for his remarkable bowling, taking 5 wickets for only 4 runs in 1.5 overs.
With this result, both Malawi and Tanzania have qualified for the next stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup sub-regional qualifiers. Tanzania tops the standings with 8 points, with Malawi close behind, also on 8 points but placed second due to net run rate. Ghana sits in third place with 4 points, having won two and lost two of their four matches. Lesotho follows in fourth with 2 points from one win and three losses, while Cameroon is fifth, also with 2 points but with an inferior run rate. Mali remains at the bottom, winless after four matches.
Malawi will wrap up their group stage campaign tomorrow with a highly anticipated clash against hosts and tournament favorites, Tanzania, at Dar Gymkhana Club, with the match scheduled to start at 1:50 PM CAT.
The Malawi National Council of Sports proudly congratulates the men’s national cricket team for their outstanding performance!
