The Malawi karate team is in Harare, Zimbabwe, preparing for the prestigious Kurai Open Championship, which will take place this weekend from Saturday, November 16, to Sunday, November 17.

Since their arrival, the team has been actively engaged in intense training sessions and collaborating with some of Zimbabwe’s top karate officials.

Their training began on Tuesday with Sensei Josh, the head instructor at Alex Dojo and a prominent member of the Zimbabwe Karate Federation’s technical team. During the training, the athletes focused on refining their techniques and building competitive resilience.

Later that evening, the team intensified their preparations through a session with Winston Nyanhete, head coach of Zimbabwe’s national karate team, who provided insights into high-level competitive strategies.

On Wednesday the team continued to train with Nyahete with a focus on kumite, where both teams exchanged techniques and approaches to effective tournament preparation.

Today, the Malawian athletes are set to train with Sensei Fradson Shavi, Zimbabwe’s National Technical Director and the country’s highest-ranked karateka. The training will concentrate on mastering the essential techniques of kata, a core component of karate that emphasizes precision, form, and discipline.
