MALAWI BOXING ASSOCIATION TO HOST UNDER-20 IDENTIFICATION TOURNAMENT

Jul 26, 2024 | News

The Malawi Boxing Association (MABA) is set to conduct the southern region under-20 Region 5 identification tournament at Wanderers Club on Saturday, July 27, 2024. This significant event aims to scout and select young boxing talent to represent Malawi at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 games, scheduled for May next year in Namibia.

The tournament is a key part of MABA’s strategy to nurture and promote young boxers, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and potential on a larger stage. Following the identification tournament, selected boxers will enter their first training camp next month, ensuring they are well-prepared for the upcoming AUSC games.

In addition to the southern region tournament, similar events are planned for the central and northern regions. These tournaments collectively form a comprehensive national effort to identify and develop boxing talent across Malawi.

The AUSC Region 5 games are a prestigious event that brings together young athletes from across the region, offering them an opportunity to compete at a high level. Malawi has a history of strong performances at these games, with the boxing team notably securing four bronze medals during the 2022 AUSC games held in Lilongwe. This year’s identification tournament aims to build on that success and bring home even more medals next year.

Boxing enthusiasts and supporters are encouraged to attend the tournament at Wanderers Club and cheer on the young athletes as they compete for a place in the national team. This event promises to be an exciting display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship, showcasing the future stars of Malawian boxing.
