The Malawi Beach Soccer national team finished seventh at the 2024 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations after an intense 6-5 victory over Tanzania in a thrilling encounter that went into extra time.

Malawi’s hard-fought victory sees them secure seventh position, while Tanzania settles for eighth place in the tournament standings.

From the onset, the match was fiercely contested, with both teams showing determination to finish on a high note. Malawi’s Isaac Kajamu shone early on, netting two goals in the first period to give his team a 2-1 lead. However, Tanzania came back strongly in the second period, leveling the score at 3-3 by the break.

The third period saw the teams remain deadlocked at 4-4, setting up a dramatic extra-time finale. In the final moments, Malawi found the decisive goal to win 6-5, celebrating their first victory in the competition.

This win marked Malawi’s only triumph in the tournament after previous losses to Mozambique, Senegal, and Mauritania. It also mirrored their seventh-place finish from the previous edition.

In other placement matches, Ghana claimed fifth place with a 5-3 win over Mozambique, leaving the latter in sixth.

The semi-finals brought more excitement, with Senegal edging out Egypt 2-1 to secure their place in the final. Senegal awaits the winner of the second semi-final between Mauritania and Morocco, set to be played later in the afternoon.

The Malawi Beach Soccer team is scheduled to depart Egypt today, with their arrival back home expected tomorrow.
