FLAMES READY FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIER AGAINST NAMIBIA

Mar 19, 2025 | News

Malawi football National team, the Flames, is set to take on Namibia’s brave warriors in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group H qualifying match at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe tomorrow from 6:00 pm.

Flames head coach, Calisto Pasuwa, has expressed confidence in his squad’s preparation ahead of the encounter.

“We came into camp a day before yesterday with 16 players, and the rest joined us shortly after. We held a full training session on Tuesday, which went exceptionally well. The players are in good physical condition, and we’re hopeful they’ll quickly adapt to the tactical demands of the game,” said Pasuwa.

Pasuwa also stressed the importance of taking Namibia seriously, acknowledging the growing competitiveness of African football.

“People might see Namibia as a smaller team, but there are no small teams in Africa anymore. Every match is a battle, and we need to stay mentally strong and work hard to secure a positive result,” he added.

The Flames received a boost on Tuesday with the arrival of foreign-based players, completing the squad ahead of the fixture.

Malawi currently sits fourth in Group H with six points from four matches. Tunisia leads the group with 13 points from five games, followed by Namibia in second place with eight points from four matches. Liberia is third with seven points from five games, while Equatorial Guinea (three points) and São Tomé and Príncipe (zero points) round out the standings.

With the competition heating up, a victory against Namibia would be a significant step for Malawi in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
