The 5th edition of the Malawi Youth Games national finals will explode tommorrow in Blantyre, bringing together the country’s brightest young sports talent for a week of exciting competition.
From 13th to 18th August 2025, the Blantyre Sports Arena, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES), and the Kamuzu Stadium will host 1,078 learners from across Malawi, all eager to showcase their skills and compete for national glory.
The athletes will battle in eight sports disciplines, including: Football (boys and girls – Primary U15, Secondary U17), Volleyball ( Under 17 secondary only), Basketball (Under 17 secondary only), Netball (Primary U15, Secondary U17), Chess (ages 12–17), Athletics (juniors and seniors), Para-athletics and Handball(Under 17).
The road to Blantyre has been intense. Competitions kicked off in May at the zone level, advanced to the district finals in June, and division finals in July.
Seven education divisions will compete for national honors which include: North West Education Division (NWED), North East Education Division (NEED), Central West Education Division (CWED), Central East Education Division (CEED), South West Education Division (SWED), South East Education Division (SEED), and Shire Highlands Education Division (SHED).
The Malawi Youth Games were established in 2021 to unearth and develop sports talent in primary and secondary schools, both public and private. The games are funded by the Malawi government through the Malawi National Council of Sports(MNCS) and are managed by the Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA).
With 1,078 learners ready to give it their all, the finals promise a celebration of talent, passion, and national pride and a glimpse into the future of Malawian sport.
