The Malawi National Council of Sports(MNCS), through its Regional Sports Development Office (North), is conducting a five-day Amateur Boxing Course in coaching, refereeing, and judging at St. Maria Goleti TDC in Nkhatabay.
The training, which began on Monday, 17th February 2025, and will run until Friday, 21st February 2025, aims to enhance the skills of boxing coaches and officials within the district.
After the course it is expected that the quality of boxing coaching and officiating in Nkhatabay will improve, teachers and community coaches will attain the skills to identify and nurture young boxing talent and that participants will standardize boxing training and officiating practices in line with international standards.
A total of 30 participants, including primary and secondary school teachers as well as coaches from community boxing clubs, are taking part in the course.
The initiative is part of the Council’s broader efforts to promote sports development and nurture talent at the grassroots level.
The course is being facilitated by two highly qualified trainers: Mr. Andrew Muyaya and Mr. Thomson Mphasa, both of whom are International Boxing Association (IBA) Star 1 Certified Coaches. Their expertise is expected to equip participants with the latest techniques and best practices in boxing coaching, refereeing, and judging.
Initiatives like this are crucial for developing the next generation of athletes. By empowering coaches and officials with the right skills, the Malawi National Council of Sports is laying the foundation for a brighter future for the sport in the country.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be better equipped to train young boxers and officiate matches at local and regional levels. This initiative is expected to have a ripple effect, inspiring more young people to take up boxing and fostering a culture of excellence in the sport.
The Malawi National Council of Sports is committed to continuing such programs across the country to ensure the sustainable development of boxing and other sports.
