During the African day championship Malawi won two gold medals through Lawrence Chingonga and Jimmy Katsoka, while Moreen Dzikambani, Yamikani Matembeka and Moses Banda all won silver medals. The Malawi team also received an award as the best team at the tournament because of the individual performances of the athletes.

During last years event the Malawi kickboxing national team won three gold and three silver medals.

During the tournament Malawi’s under 17 handball player Desire Kaunda was voted as top goal scorer, while Malawi under 19 player Patuma Kandulu was voted as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

This is the second time for Malawi to qualify for the ACA T20 Africa Cup finals.
