For the Golf Union of Malawi (GOUM), the tournament represents more than just competition. It is an opportunity to expand the sport’s reach. Vice President for GOUM, Michael Khomani, highlighted the importance of the initiative.
“We are happy with the introduction of the Ufulu Golf Tournament, but more importantly, we are excited that the Malawi National Council of Sports has come in to support golf. We believe this tournament will go a long way in improving golf in the country. If golf is to develop, we need more tournaments like Ufulu. Golf is for everyone, and our goal is to reach as many people as possible so that one day, everyone in Malawi can enjoy playing the sport,” Khomani said.
On his part, Mr. Limbani Matola, Director of Planning, Marketing and Infrastructure Services at the Malawi National Council of Sports, emphasized that the tournament is here to stay.
“The Ufulu Golf Tournament is here to stay. It will now be taking place annually because, as Malawi National Council of Sports, we want to encourage mass participation in sports. We are excited with the involvement of both juniors and seniors. Going forward, our vision is to grow the Ufulu Golf Tournament into an international event,” Matola explained.
The Ufulu Golf Tournament is not only about swings and putts; it embodies Malawi’s spirit of freedom, unity, and growth, both in sport and as a nation. .
