The Minister of Youth and Sports, Honourable Uchizi Mkandawire, MP, on Wednesday officially handed over the 2025 RASA Female Sportsperson of the Year trophy to Malawi’s football icon, Tabitha Chawinga, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. Chawinga won the prestigious award in May during a ceremony in Harare, Zimbabwe, but was unable to attend due to club commitments. Hon Mkandawire, who received the trophy on her behalf, praised Chawinga’s remarkable achievements and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting sport.

The handover was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Malawi National Council of Sports, and the Malawi U-20 Girls National Football Team. MNCS Board Chairperson Dr. Sunduzwayo Madise hailed Chawinga as a national inspiration, while Chawinga expressed gratitude for the honour, dedicating the award to all Malawians. She becomes only the second Malawian to win a RASA award, after Moneyi Chingaipe in 2019.
