Mukuru Malawi has today announced a MK675 million sponsorship package for the Malawi Under-21 national netball team and the Under-21 national netball league.
The three-year sponsorship deal was officially unveiled during a press briefing held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
Speaking at the event, Mukuru Malawi Country Manager, Pride Chiwaya, said the sponsorship is part of the company’s commitment to giving back to the community that continues to support and trust the Mukuru brand.
“We are delighted to partner with the Netball Association of Malawi. This strategic business decision aligns with our mission to empower the girl child. We want to create a platform where young girls are seen, supported, and celebrated. This sponsorship offers an opportunity for them to showcase their talent, gain visibility, and ultimately represent Malawi on the international stage,’’ said Chiwaya.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President, Vitumbiko Gubuduza, expressed gratitude to Mukuru for stepping in at a crucial time.
“This sponsorship has come at the perfect moment as we prepare for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup. For a long time, the focus has been on the senior team, and we lacked a structured platform for grooming upcoming players. This partnership will help us bridge that gap and ensure a smooth transition of talent from junior to senior levels.” explained Gubuduza
Also present at the event was Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Henry Kamata, who hailed the sponsorship as a sign of growing confidence in the governance of the sport.
“’ On behalf of the Malawi government, we are very excited about the sponsorship from Mukuru, this is what we have been looking for. The corporate world should come and partner with the government in promoting the sport in the country and we a very grateful to Mukuru for coming to sponsor a specific category of netball this is under 21 so we are excited about the sponsorship,’’ explained Kamata
During the announcement of the MK675 million sponsorship, Mukuru and NAM also unveiled the official jersey that the Under-21 national netball team will don at the 2025 Netball Youth World Cup, scheduled for September in Gibraltar.
