Malawi National Council of Sports Donates Medical Equipment to Mdeka Health Centre

Feb 19, 2025 | News

In a bid to improve healthcare access for over 33,000 Malawians, the Malawi National Council of Sports has today donated critical medical equipment worth MK5 million to Mdeka Health Centre in Blantyre

The donation, made using proceeds from the 2024 Blantyre 42.195 KM Race, includes a refrigerator, a wheelchair, a stretcher, and a fan, items identified as crucial for the facility’s service delivery.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, MNCS Director of Human Resources and Administration, Mr. Lameck Gomani, said the Council donated after observing the facility’s need for essential equipment.

“As a Council, we are excited to contribute to the well-being of Malawians. Since we are responsible for promoting sports, we believe that a healthy population can actively participate in sporting activities. Good health and sports go hand in hand, which is why we are proud to make this donation,” said Gomani.

Blantyre District Health Office Clinical Coordinator, Aleck Asima, expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the donation addresses a critical need at the facility.

“The equipment provided today directly responds to the challenges we have been facing. We encourage other organizations and well-wishers to assist in any way they can because such contributions align with our national health strategy, which aims to improve the availability and accessibility of healthcare services. We do not want patients to be turned away due to a lack of equipment,” said Asima.

The donated equipment is expected to benefit over 33,100 community members who rely on Mdeka Health Centre for medical services.
