The stage is set for the sixth edition of the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off tomorrow in Hurghada, Egypt. Eight nations are vying for continental glory in this prestigious event.

Malawi has been drawn into Group A, where they will face defending champions Senegal, Mozambique, and Mauritania. Group B features host nation Egypt, Ghana, Tanzania, and Morocco.

Malawi’s campaign begins with a clash against neighbors Mozambique on Sunday, October 20. The team will then take on the formidable Senegalese side on Monday, October 21, before wrapping up the group stage with a match against Mauritania on Tuesday, October 22.

Head coach Willy Kumilambe is optimistic about Malawi’s chances in the tournament, citing the team’s experience and preparation.

“We had a solid 10-day training camp and are well-prepared for the tournament. We addressed the areas that needed improvement after the qualifiers, and I’m confident that the team we’re bringing to Egypt is here to compete, not just participate,” Kumilambe said.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, and the finalists will secure spots at Africa’s first-ever FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, set to take place in Seychelles in 2025. This tournament will see Africa’s representation at the World Cup increase to three teams.

Malawi will be aiming to improve on their performance from the previous edition, where they finished seventh in Mozambique.
