Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHES) has donated MK1,500,000 towards the Blantyre 42.195 km race, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Mr. George Chitunga, the General Manager at the sports complex, presented the cheque to the Malawi National Council of Sports. He explained that as an institution, they felt it necessary to support the council in conducting the Blantyre 42.195 km race.

“As you are aware, the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences sports complex is a partner in sports development. We are a high-performance center and when we heard about the marathon, we thought it wise to come in and partner with the sports council in organizing the marathon.” Explained Chitunga

Mr. Limbani Matola, the director of planning, marketing, and infrastructure development at the Malawi National Council of Sports, urged other institutions, companies, and the private sector to emulate what KUHES has done.

“We are excited and very grateful as the Malawi National Council of Sports to Kamuzu University of Health Sciences because indeed they have sponsored us with 1.5 million towards the organization of the Blantyre 42.195 km race, which is happening on September 7. We are excited because there is brand alignment, what KUHES sports complex does is in total alignment with what the Malawi National Council of Sports does. We are both in the sporting business promoting physical health and well-being, so this money will go a long way towards some expenses in organizing the Blantyre 42.195 km race,” explained Matola.

This year, the Blantyre 42.195 km race will also feature other activities such as aerobics and kids’ activities. Additionally, for the first time, the race will also include the 10 km and 5 km races.
