Special Olympics Malawi, with support from Lions Club International Foundation, is excited to introduce a new initiative: the Special Olympics Malawi Unified with Refugees program. This initiative is designed to address the inequalities faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities in refugee camps through the power of sports.
On Monday, August 19, 2024, a stakeholders meeting was held at Hotel 44 in Lilongwe, followed by a sensitization meeting in the afternoon at Dzaleka Refugee Camp.
From Tuesday, August 20 to Friday, August 23, 2024, 35 participants will receive training at Dzaleka Refugee Camp to become Special Olympics Coaches. This training aims to foster inclusion through sports, with 30 participants selected from the camp and 5 from the surrounding communities.
