In a thrilling match at Olymp Africa Stadium in Bujumbura, Burundi, the Malawi Beach Soccer national team emerged victorious, defeating Burundi 7-6 in the first leg of the 2024 Beach Soccer AFCON qualifying match.
The game saw Malawi taking the lead in the first period with a score of 3-1, including two goals by Issac Kajamu and an own goal from Burundi. Despite a determined effort from Burundi in the second period, Malawi maintained their lead at 5-3. The final period was intense, as Burundi fought hard to secure a win, but Malawi held their ground and secured a 7-6 victory.
The second leg is set for Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Sunbird Livingstonia beach in Salima.
The ultimate winner between Malawi and Burundi will qualify for the AFCON final in Egypt later this year.
