Special Olympics Malawi is expanding its team of coaches to promote inclusion across the country. To achieve this goal, the organization is conducting its first coaches’ training course for the second quarter of the financial year. The training is scheduled from Tuesday, July 16th to Friday, July 19th, 2024, at Addolorata Primary School in Thyolo.
The training program has attracted over 60 participants from various sectors, including sports and Special Needs Education teachers, community members, law enforcement officers, and health personnel. This diverse group is being equipped with the skills necessary to coach athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Once trained, these coaches will immediately start recruiting and training athletes nationwide. The training is being led by Mr. Mustafa Moses, Head of Sports at Special Olympics Malawi, and Ms. Enid Mauluka, the National Director of Special Olympics Malawi.
The four-day training course will conclude with a closing ceremony, where coaches will have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned. This ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter in promoting inclusivity through sports in Malawi.
